Car rental / courtesy vehicle coverage is another possible extra that you might not need and can further reduce your monthly instalment. If you have more than one car or are in a position where you could live without a car for a few weeks while your car is being repaired, un-ticking this option would save costs.


This protection coverage reimburses for medical bills resulting from auto accidents regardless of who is at fault. If you and your family already have personal health and/or disability insurance then are likely covered for these expenses and you may not need additional personal injury protection. Reconsider the extra charge for this insurance.


Funeral and accidental death insurance can be another unnecessary addition to your vehicle insurance policy if you already have a life insurance policy in place. There’s no use to double up – consult your life insurance broker to find out if you already have this insurance included in your life insurance policy.
Car insurance is an important thing to have, and way too many drive without insurance on the roads of South Africa. That said, it is possible to reduce your insurance costs by eliminating unnecessary insurances or insurance that might double up with other policies. Be sure to consult with your insurance broker, and make sure you are already suitably covered before you start cancelling portions of your car insurance. Remember, driving a car that’s over-insured is always better than being uninsured!
